Frequently Asked Questions
Do You Cook to Order?
Yes! For us it’s all about quality & consistency so our customers know they can rely on us for the ultimate in fish & chips. We only ever cook to order, so cooked fish is never sitting around or soggy. We fry in pure, fresh cooking oils which we change on a regular basis. Unlike other, more commonly used chip shop fats, this gives our batter the light, crisp texture that keeps our customers coming back time after time.
Where do we source our fish?
Our cod & haddock are caught in the deep, cold, unpolluted waters of the north Atlantic around Iceland & Norway & the Barents sea, north of Russia. these fisheries are very efficiently managed with fishermen & scientist working together to ensure sustainability of the fishery. Unlike EU fisheries, discarding fish overboard is not allowed & all fish must be bought back in to port to be sold.
Where do our potatoes come from?
Apart from seasonal variations we only sell the very best Maris Piper or Maris Bard from Lincolnshire & Cambridgeshire supplied to us by our trusted potato merchant.
Are Fish & Chips are good for you?
Generally speaking, fish and chips is a much healthier meal than you might expect. However, because of the ingredients we use, the way we prepare them, and the oils and temperatures with which we fry, fish and chips at Alcombe Fish Bar can justifiably claim to be a healthy choice.
